Citrix Receiver or Citrix Workspace App – What Citrix Recommends?

Citrix Receiver is not a standalone program, and it comes included in XenApp and XenDesktop subscriptions. On the other hand, Citrix Workspace app is an independent product and can be installed separately. Some users continue to use Citrix Receiver as it supports any desktop platforms such as Windows, Mac, and Linux. Citrix Workspace app provides support for all the platforms and devices supported by Citrix Receiver with added features. Thus, Citrix no more recommends the use of Citrix Receiver as client software.

What Are the Salient Features of Citrix Workspace App?

  • Citrix Workspace app is available through a free download.
  • Unlike Citrix Receiver, Citrix Workspace app brings everything you need at your fingertips, be it files, applications, or desktops.

  • Citrix Workspace app eliminates the need for different clients to access different Citrix products.
  • Using Citrix Workspace app, users get the latest interface with the ability to access Citrix Workspace, including files and applications. At the same time, Citrix Receiver only allows you to view file names with a basic, older interface.
  • If the Workspace authentication method is Azure AD enabled, Citrix Receiver users with older versions see an error message while Citrix Workspace app users can access Workspace.

HDX Plug and PlayShadowing
Smart CardsSystem Exceptions

  1. With HDX Flash redirection enabled, keyboard and mouse clicks can stop working after you finish playing a Flash video embedded in a Web page. The issue occurs because the seamless browser window fails to reclaim focus from the Flash video window.

    [From RcvrForWin3.3_13.3.100][#LA1079]

  2. With Adobe Flash Player ActiveX 11.3 installed on the endpoint device, Flash content cannot be redirected to be rendered on the client; instead, the content is rendered on the server.

To enable this fix in its entirety, you must install both a client hotfix that contains Fix #LA2283, and

    • For XenApp: an HDX Flash hotfix that contains Fix #LA2283
    • For XenDesktop: a Virtual Desktop Agent hotfix that contains Fix #LA2283

    [From RcvrForWin3.3_13.3.100][#LA2283]

  3. With Adobe Flash Player ActiveX 11.4 installed on the endpoint device, Flash content cannot be redirected to be rendered on the client; instead, the content is rendered on the server.

    [From RcvrForWin3.3_13.3.100][#LA1208]

  1. This enhancement provides proxy detection logic optimization so that the logic reverts to use 'Use automatic configuration script' when Internet Explorer's 'Automatically detect settings' option is enabled and Web Proxy Auto Discovery (WPAD) is not available on the network.

    [From RcvrForWin3.3_13.3.100][#246824]

  2. Attempts to automatically reconnect to a disconnected virtual desktop can cause the Desktop Viewer to become unresponsive after the endpoint returns from standby mode.

    [From RcvrForWin3.3_13.3.100][#LA0266]

  3. While writing a file to the client drive if the total size exceeds the maximum quota value set for the client drive, an error message or a warning message is not displayed.

  7. After locking and unlocking a client device while connected to a published desktop in full-screen mode, the published desktop no longer displays in full-screen mode. Instead, the desktop appears as a window and displays horizontal and vertical scrollbars.

    [From RcvrForWin3.3_13.3.100][#LA2379]

  9. Clicking an application icon multiple times in rapid succession can result in the creation of multiple, separate sessions even if the application limit is set to 1. To enable this fix, you must set the following registry key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARECitrixICA Client
    Name: EnableSyncLaunch
    Type: REG_DWORD

To suppress the pop-up window, you must create the following registry key:

    On 32-bit Windows:

Receiver
  1. A change introduced in Version 12.1 of the online plug-in introduced a delay in the appearance of the connection progress bar for seamless connections. On 32-bit Windows:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARECitrixICA Client
    Name: NotificationDelay
    Type: REG_DWORD
    Data: <Delay, in milliseconds>

    On 64-bit Windows:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREWow6432nodeCitrixICA Client
    Name: NotificationDelay
    Type: REG_DWORD
    Data: <Delay, in milliseconds>

  2. The USB Devices menu in the Desktop Viewer fails to disappear in a timely manner when the viewer is set to autohide.
