This sounds trivial, and it is. But if you have a Visual Studio background and are trying out JetBrains Rider for the first time, this may not be apparent how to setup launching multiple projects in JetBrains Rider.

  • JetBrains Rider 2019.2.2 Windows. 30th August 2019 12th September 2020 - Leave a Comment. JetBrains Rider. JetBrains Rider is a new integrated development environment.
  • Jetbrains-rider has passed automated virus scanning, however requires human verification. Package Scan Status Type was: ScannerExempted. This could mean that a file for this package was too large to be scanned, or that the number of scanned files doesn't match the number of expected files.

This entire week I’ve almost exclusively used Rider. I’ve used some of the early EAP’s, but not on an actual project.

One of the first roadblocks I hit was trying to figure out how to launch multiple projects from my solution.

Thankfully, it didn’t take me too long to figure out. However, I then had a colleague ask me the very next day how to do it, as he was also trying it out for the first time.

Run Configurations

Under the Run > Edit Configurations... menu, brings up a dialog where you can manage different configurations. Under the .NET Projects, you will have one default entry that points to an existing project. Create any new .NET Project entries to any other executable projects you have in your solution.

Compound

2019.2.2

Next, to run multiple configurations together at once, create a Compound configuration and add your .NET Projects to it.

As I mentioned, it’s pretty trivial but maybe not obvious to someone not familiar with JetBrains IDE’s.

Rider Review

I’m looking forward to the next couple weeks using Rider. I plan on giving a full review after I’ve given it is paces with real project work.

Are you using Rider? How are you enjoying it? I’d love to hear your comments below or on Twitter.

The JetBrains Rider editor package integrates support for the JetBrains Rider .NET Integrated Development Environment (IDE), into the Unity Editor. This package provides an end-point for Rider to call different Unity APIs and to generate .csproj and .sln files, which Rider uses to implement support for Unity in its plug-in.

This package ensures that IDE features like autocomplete suggestions and flagging dependency conflicts work in Rider. It uses .cproj and .sln files which store information about your project such as:

  • Versioning information
  • Build files
  • Platform requirements
  • Web server or database settings

Not all code in Unity is directly visible to code editors, particularly when using packages. This is because packages don’t provide their own .csproj files, and Unity doesn’t create them for installed packages by default. This means that IDE features like autocomplete suggestions and flagging dependency conflicts do not work with code in these packages. The purpose of this package is to produce the .csproj files that make these features possible by default when you use Rider.
